Communicating about your dissertation

If you’re the only person you know who’s working on a dissertation, it’s easy to feel isolated and alone. If you talk about it to non graduate students, they don’t understand, so you end up feeling isolated. If you talk about it with your peers, it’s possible that they will be critical and demeaning, so you end up feeling alone. A way to combat this? Aim to increase your range of social interactions overall- and only share your dissertation with people who will understand. Consider starting a writing group or other support group to get support for your dissertation- and find a social group or club to hang out with, too.
