Maintaining Motivation During the Holiday Season II

During the holiday season, it can be more difficult to find the time, energy, and interest to keep making progress on your dissertation. If you fear that you won’t be motivated to work during the holiday season, and yet feel anxious or uncomfortable about not working, here are some more ideas to help you: 4) Use "found time" to your advantage. Do you have to wait in line for a long time? Can you use this time to jot down some key points for your argument? Can you use this time to edit or revise something you’ve already written? 5) Multitask, within reason. Can you get a dissertation buddy and go for a walk together while you discuss your projects? This way, you get some exercise and a chance to further develop your ideas at the same time. 6) Keep your focus on you. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, tired, irritable, or stressed, this is a huge cue that you need to stop what you’re doing and try something else. You are the best person to give yourself what you need.
