Slowing Down Can Actually Translate to Meaningful Progress

by Dr. Rachna D. Jain

In completing a project the length and size of the dissertation, it can be easy to believe that you constantly need to keep moving forward; otherwise you’ll actually be losing ground. It’s like that feeling that you have to keep moving forward or you’re actually falling behind.

That’s actually not the case. Periodically you need to slow down your life, come to a standstill, so that you can make meaningful and useful progress again after you’ve taken a bit of a rest. You may actually be juggling multiple responsibilities at the same time.

So if you’re feeling a little bit exhausted or a little bit ragged out, this would be a perfect time to plan a day of total rest and relaxation. Take note of how you feel before and how you feel after. There will be a significant difference.
